October is here and that means the Wellness and Benefits Expo is excited to display a wide variety of services at the annual Health Expo! Among the dozens of things to see at the Expo on October 18 and 19, one feature is to learn about how we have made it a priority to offer our services in multiple languages to better assist our patients.
Propio, a language interpreting service now available at all SMSC Clinics, will be featured. You will also be able to meet some of the healthcare providers who are fluent in languages other than English, including Maria, a medical provider, who speaks Spanish, and Dr. Alex, a chiropractor, who speaks Russian. Additionally, the Benefits Department will have a Benefits Summary booklet available in six different languages. Did you also know that SMSC’s Health & Wellness website, smscwellness.org, has a language button that allows the website to be translated into ten different languages, including Russian, Hmong, Somali, and more?
Aside from learning about our enhanced language services, there are many other amazing highlights to look for at the 2023 Wellness and Benefits Expo. Here are a few:

- Pet therapy dogs for an instant mood booster
- Stop by the Mdewakanton Public Safety table for a fire extinguisher demonstration

Note: Flu shots and COVID boosters will not be offered at the Expo this year. Instead, these will be offered at a number of opportunities throughout October. Keep an eye on the Beacon app for future dates, times, and locations!
